Right-click on the messageid opens the context menu where you can choose local search, Google or the adequate newsserver:

MessageID-Finder could be use within the source view:
Dialog to change the settings for Thunderbird (For mozilla see chrome://messageidfinder/content/pref-messageidfinder.xul)
If you have installed Mnenhy you are able to use the MessageID-Finder within the header-list:
Marking the messageid in the header and right-click to open the context menu where you find the MessageID-Finder
(Mnenhy 0.2 or higher needed)
